Gourmet Traveller (Australia) – Bali & Me

“And then there’s the food. Ibu Susu Bar & Kitchen is a refreshing addition to Ubud’s food scene. I go for the beef rendang and stay for the tamarind black cod. There’s also an interesting list of fizzies courtesy of Balinese owner Ketut Aprinawan, a cocktail maker extraordinaire who honed his skills in Melbourne.”

THE MIGHTY 4 – Ubud’s Best New Restaurants 2018

Ubud’s classic Hujan Locale serves one hell of a great dinner, but they’ve cornered the market on upscale Indonesian and Pan-Asian food in town for years. Ibu Susu says: no more. After 5 years honing his skills in Melbourne, owner Ketut came back to Bali to build his dream restaurant—and his dream is our blessing. Ibu Susu translate’s to Mother’s Milk, as in: this is the nourishment we all need. We couldn’t agree more.

Ibu Susu’s menu is full of bright colors and bold, complex flavors—their spicy papaya and pomelo salad is like a rainbow in your mouth. Dishes like their steamed buns are pure satisfaction: fluffy, pillowy buns filled with smoky pork belly (ask for veg options, too—this mother’s milk is for everyone). Oh, and did we mention their cocktails? No? Well, here goes: they are f****ng amazing. Check out their julep with apple-infused whiskey poured over fresh snakefruit.

The 50 best restaurants in Ubud | Fine dining, cool cafes & everyday eats

This new Ubud underdog may well be small in size, but it’s been making one helluva big wave on the Ubud food scene. Dishing up all-day bites done right, the Pan Asian menu goes from pandan hot cakes for brekkie, to pork belly steamed buns, soft shell crab stir fries and Beef Rendang for lunch and dinner. And while the food here excels all expectations, it’s the cocktails that have been causing the biggest stir. The Smoked Negroni would fit right in at a New York speakeasy; the Salted Caramel Espresso Martini is up there with Bali’s very best; and the Your Majes-Tea is served up in a teapot for both taste and Instagram kudos. Cheers to that!
